Born here in the Canadian Pacific Northwest, in 2006 I ended up living very far away—in Vienna, Austria!—after a holiday that went horribly right. I surprised myself by immediately getting a job hosting radio shows in English for the national broadcaster’s alternative, youth and subculture radio station.

Before I knew it, I was traveling the world collecting stories for my radio column, “Johnny’s Journeys,” all the while making friends with couches in over fifty countries!

Fast forward about fifteen years: the world had just ended (sort of), and being a travel journalist simply wasn’t as much fun as it used to be. I decided I wanted to reconnect with my roots, so I uprooted my life and moved back to Victoria, BC!

A new job giving tours in an oversized tricycle inspired me to return to the world of travel media, this time producing my own television video podcast series Bon Victoriage! with the support of TELUS STORYHIVE. I applied to join their Video Podcast program in Spring 2024, and the rest is history. The completed series will be available on TELUS Optik TV, Stream+ and STORYHIVE's YouTube channel in Spring 2025.

Who knows where this absurd life will take me next?
